“Dance Drawings/Prints”
These prints are a series of one-of-a-kind drawings derived from a series of photographs. Some are from Alvin Ailey dance company. Later works in this series are from personal photographs of dance and dancers as well as other sources like Martha Graham, Pow Wow, Indigenous European Traditions, Break Dance, and African Dance. Please contact me if you would like me to turn a dance picture or video of yours into a drawing, print, or painting.
These works are an effort to capture the simplicity, grace and imagined inner experiences of the dancers. The tension between movement and stillness, grace and mistakes, and of course the exultations of being an ecstatic energy body are aspects of this reimagined subject matter. Within the inevitable pain and awkwardness of being bound to a physical form, the dancer strives to create something of beauty, grace and meaning for the world, not unlike the visual artist. These works employ simple line, composition, and hue-coordinated-dynamism. Each print is one of a kind; color palettes will not be duplicated and can be customized.
